Overcoming Boundaries and Sharing Bonds
Michelle Bitog, Batch Tokuten
Last August 15, UP Tomo-Kai, along with the start of the new semester, held an acquaintance party at Jollibee, Philcoa to welcome our new friends from Japan. The acquaintance party was not just for all of us to get along and introduce ourselves to the new students but rather, it was also a chance for our members to unwind and enjoy the night of fun.
The event was overwhelming! More than sixty people attended the party and even though such number of people were present, it was really surprising that everyone was very attentive. It just showed how much everyone was excited to meet and make friends with one another. Of course, not to forget, for them to really understand what UP Tomo-Kai stands for, we also introduced UP Tomo-Kai to them and what activities we do.
Time runs fast when you have fun. Although the night felt so short, we had fun interacting with our new friends by playing games and letting them enjoy more by showing them performances of the members who wholeheartedly prepared for them. Though it was really a tiring night, it felt fulfilling to see them having a great time making new friends and enjoying themselves with everyone.
As for this new academic year, there are more than forty Japanese exchange students who came to study in the University of the Philippines and I hope that through the welcome party that we had specially prepared for them, we will be able to start a new meaningful friendship: overcoming boundaries and sharing bonds.
