Applicants’ Orientation 1516B
Zara Mazelene Amerila, Batch Gintoki
On February 5, UP Tomo Kai opened its doors to welcome the applicants of the second semester for school year 2015-2016 at Palma Hall Room 308-310.
Registration started around 5pm. Nametags were given to the future applicants and current members with their names written in katakana and romaji. I have kept my nametag since then in commemoration of my first orientation as a new member of Tomo-Kai.
Our president, Ms. Gaela Pearl Mateo graced us with her presence as she discussed the overview of the organization, from the origin of its name to the roots and reason of its creation.
Hosts Kairu and Jid-senpai kept the mood light and bright as they introduced the next portion of the program: the presentation of standing committees! The Academics and Research committee, the Publicity and Publications Committee and the Resource and Linkages Committee gave the audience humorous skits describing the nature of their work. While the Finance and Logistics Committee had a very interesting presentation of their fabulous group using jokes, hugot and banat relating to their committee; my personal favorite, the Membership Committee presented a super fun video featuring their awesome head ‘Jid Possible’ showcasing his flawless parkour skills and his members’ hidden talent in acting.
I personally believe that it is truly sweeter the second time around. Having applied twice and accepted in my second attempt has given me more reason and purpose to become a better person adept in various skills and situations. Through the application process, I am confident that this will also help this semester’s applicants in whatever paths they will be going through in life. There just are so many things that the four walls of the classroom cannot teach us. Much of the fun experience might just be waiting here with us, in UP Tomo Kai!
